“Those keeping up with Austin musician Emily Gimble, who cut her musical teeth in the Waco area, should smile at this next stage in her career: After two years as keyboardist for iconic Texas western swing band Asleep at the Wheel, she’s stepping out on her own as a solo artist.
She announced the news last week after playing an Austin Music Awards tribute to her late grandfather, legendary Texas fiddler Johnny Gimble, then joining Doug James and Willie Horton to back Robert Plant (wow) for another AMA set honoring Paul Ray. Here’s the story as reported by the Austin American-Statesman’s Peter Blackstock (http://atxne.ws/25sEW6S).
Gimble, the keyboard-playing-and-singing daughter of Waco’s Dick and Marilynn Gimble, has a solo album set for release in May. She and her band will open several dates for Hayes Carll early this summer.
